BAE Systems Global Combat Ship
When building the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC), BAE Systems needed to create MBSE artefacts as part of the document pack. We led the team of SMEs supporting BAE Systems on implementing MBSE and generating structural and behavioural diagrams of all ship systems.
To achieve this, the vast amount of engineering documentation needed to be fully understood and the design teams routinely consulted. All diagrams were developed in time within a suitable ontology to provide a baseline for the customer's through-life support and continuous improvement.
Many of the diagrams also helped identify missing or inconsistent information, with additions/corrections fed back into the ship's design limiting unplanned cost growth. Supporting the engineering teams in this way demonstrated how much more efficient and effective MBSE was than documents at enabling the design of complex high-integrity systems.
